Paul and Corie Bratter — newlyweds in every sense of the word — move into a cramped 6th-floor Manhattan walk-up after a passionate six-day honeymoon. Impulsive and free-spirited, Corie is the opposite of Paul, a straight-as-an-arrow young lawyer struggling to prove himself in his new career. Settings Of Play – Various locations in Washington, D.C. and on the United States Naval Base in Guantanomo Bay, Cuba. Summer, 1986. (based on actual events)

In this military courtroom drama by Aaron Sorkin (writer/creator of the TV Show The West Wing), Navy lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee is assigned to defend two Marines, Pfc. Louden Downey and Lance Cpl. Harold Dawson. The two marines are accused of the murder of fellow leatherneck Pfc. William T. Santiago at the base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Kaffee generally plea bargains for his clients rather than bring them to trial, which is probably why he was assigned this potentially embarrassing case for the US Military. When Lt. Commander JoAnne Galloway is assigned to assist Kaffee, she is convinced that the there is more to the matters at hand than they have been led to believe and convinces her colleagues that the case should go to court. Under questioning, Downey and Dawson reveal that Santiago died in the midst of a hazing ritual known as “Code Red” after he threatened to inform higher authorities that Dawson illegally opened fire on a Cuban watchtower. They also state that the “Code Red” was performed under the orders of Lt. Jonathan Kendrick. Kendrick’s superior, tough-as-nails Col. Nathan Jessup denies any knowledge of the order to torture Santiago, but when Lt. Col. Matthew Markinson confides in Kaffee that Jessup demanded the “Code Red” for violating his order of silence, Kaffee and Galloway have to find a way to prove this in court. The show’s climax culminates in the final courtroom scene and the famous speech given by Col. Nathan Jessup that begins with the phrase, “YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!” This intense show is presented in 2 acts.

ACT1 Theater presents The Money in Uncle George’s Suitcase

When Uncle George invites his whole family up for a weekend of fun at his rustic cabin, he actually wants them together so he can read his will. But between the bequeathing and his rambling stories, George drops the bomb that somewhere on the property is a suitcase holding four hundred and eighty thousand dollars! What follows is a hilarious farce of pettiness, slander, and greed. The relatives end up wrestling each other, falling down the stairs, and getting stuck in the furniture. “Yep, we’re gonna have lots of fun!” says George as he’s seen carrying a shovel out the front door. But George’s gift is much more important than mere money, even though the relatives don’t see it that way – at first.

The Pumphouse Players presents Agnes of God

Summoned to a convent, Dr. Martha Livingstone, a court-appointed
psychiatrist, is charged with assessing the sanity of a novice accused
of murdering her newborn. Miriam Ruth, the Mother Superior, determinedly
keeps young Agnes from the doctor, arousing Livingstone’s suspicions
further. Who killed the infant and who fathered the tiny victim?
Livingstone’s questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning
of faith and the power of love leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.

Tuesdays with Morrie

Polk Street Players presents Tuesdays with Morrie

Newspaper sports columnist Mitch Albom recounts the time spent with his 78-year-old sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz, at Brandeis University, who was dying from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Albom, a former student of Schwartz, had not corresponded with him since attending his college classes 16 years earlier. The first three chapters incorporate an ambiguous introduction to the final conversation between Albom and Schwartz, a brief flashback to Albom’s graduation, and an account of the events Albom experienced between graduation and the reunion with his professor. The name Morrie comes from its meaning in Hebrew, which stands for “my teacher.”

Albom is a successful sports columnist for the Detroit Free Press despite his childhood dream of being a pianist. After seeing Schwartz on Nightline, Albom called Schwartz, who remembered his former pupil despite the lapse of 16 years. Albom was prompted to travel from Michigan to Massachusetts to visit Schwartz. A newspaper strike frees Albom to commute weekly, Tuesdays, to visit with Schwartz. The resulting book is based on these fourteen Tuesdays they meet, supplemented with Schwartz’s lectures and life experiences and interspersed with flashbacks and allusions to contemporary events.
