LIST OF CHARACTERS

Reverend Mother: Age 50-60: Reserved, in charge, but with a sense of humor that always shines through.

Sister Hubert: Age 30-50: Second in command (which she takes very seriously) and in charge of the novices; sometimes shows frustration with decisions of Rev. mother; often seems to think she’s the one who should be in charge.

Sister Robert Anne: Age 25-35: Street smart (came from Brooklyn and a tough life); great voice; though totally dedicated to God and the convent, she has a not-so-secret wish “to be a star,” and the Reverend Mother seems determined to frustrate that wish. Tough but has heart of gold.

Sister Amnesia: Age 20s-30s: She had a severe blow to the head (which was discussed in the original show, NUNSENSE), and though she’s recovered some of her memory, still is forgetful and an innocent, and blunders often—but always endearingly (and amusingly).

Sister Mary Leo: Small part in beginning of show, played by Stage Manager—age determined via auditions

Father Virgil – Brother of Sister Leo, Age 30′s to 40ish: Has agreed to help sisters and is Master of Ceremonies. Has his own radio show. Must be ready to do a lot of physical comedy.

Four children, ages 8-11 to 14, 2 boys 2 girls—really looking for middle school age, but might go as young as a MATURE 8.

Be prepared to sing traditional Christmas carols (i.e., “We Three Kings”; “Jingle Bells”; “The First Noel”; “Silent Night”, among others) to show your range and ability. Actual songs from the show will be played and you’ll want to be able to pick up on them at callbacks; no monologue required. Be prepared to do cold readings, and also to learn the variations on the Christmas carols which are used in the show. You can go tohttp://www.allmusic.com/album/nuncrackers-nunsense-christmas-musical-mw0000669631 to listen to samples of the actual songs.

Callbacks Tuesday, October 14; rehearsals begin October 20. We will be rehearsing 3 days a week: Sunday, Monday, Thursday, until we get closer to time for the show, at which point count on being there nearly every weeknight. Rehearsals will run 2-2.5 hours typically, but may expand if there is a need for more work.

All roles available.

Auditions are OPEN.

Show dates are December 5th – 14th, 2014.

ACT1 Theater presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a musical with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The story is based on the “coat of many colors” story of Joseph from the Bible’s Book of Genesis. This was the first Lloyd Webber and Rice musical to be performed publicly. (Their first musical, The Likes of Us, written in 1965, was not performed until 2005.)

The show has little spoken dialogue; it is completely sung-through. Its family-friendly storyline, universal themes and catchy music have resulted in numerous productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; according to the Really Useful Group, by 2008 more than 20,000 schools and amateur theatre groups had successfully put on productions.

Oliver!

MelloDrama Productions presents Oliver!

Oliver! is a British musical, with music and lyrics by Lionel Bart. The musical is based upon the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.

Oliver Twist is a young boy who lives in a workhouse with other orphaned boys. When Oliver disrupts a meal by asking for more, he is sold to a local undertaker and his family. They treat Oliver horribly and make him sleep under the coffins. Oliver escapes and runs off to Paddington Green, where he quickly befriends another young boy, the Artful Dodger. Dodger takes him to his home, an academy for orphans who learn how to be pick-pockets run by a kind, yet slightly sinister, old gentleman named Fagin. Oliver is also introduced to Nancy Sikes, a lovable young woman, and Bet, Nancy’s best friend. When Oliver goes on his first pick-pocketing job, he is caught by the police. The man that Oliver thieved, Mr. Brownlow, learns of Oliver’s sad past and brings him into his own home. Meanwhile, Nancy’s husband (the villainous Bill Sikes) worries that Oliver will tell Mr. Brownlow and the police where the thieves live. He forces Nancy and Bet to snatch Oliver from Mr. Brownlow’s house and take him back to Fagin’s. Nancy does everything her husband tells her to but plans on secretly taking Oliver back to Mr. Brownlow. Before she can do so, Bill finds out of his wife’s plans, and murders her. He then goes after Oliver, but is shot and killed. Oliver and Mr. Brownlow, who turns out to be Oliver’s grandfather, return safely home.

Oliver is being presented at the Cumming Playhouse by Mello-Drama Productions under the direction of Neva Garrett. Opening in March and running up until Saturday before Easter, this will be a popular Spring-Break event for students and their families.

Give My Regards to Broadway

Act1 Theater presents Give My Regards to Broadway

Combine the greatest show tunes of George M. Cohan with a sparkling story and you have the most entertaining, charming, toe-tapping musical of the season. Dick Foster is opening a Broadway show but is having problems with both money and his leading lady. Enter Mary Collins, an aspiring actress from New Rochelle, plus ’Legs’ Ruby, a Damon Runyon-type bookie who is on the run from the mob. Just as all appears lost, a financial ’angel’ appears with the money to do the show, and Mary gets her big chance at stardom. The play is filled with fascinating character roles, including the ’Donald O’Connor-type’ pianist, Betty, the Virginia belle in the chorus, along with a bevy of chorus girls, gangsters and other assorted characters. The set, (mostly on an empty stage) is a snap. The Cohan songs are among his most memorable: ’Give My Regards To Broadway,’ ’You’re A Grand Old Flag,’ ’Mary’s A Grand Old Name’ and many more. And the cast is completely flexible with room for an additional chorus of any size, plus optional choreography if desired. Here’s a show in the true tradition of 42nd Street and the great Broadway musicals — an audience pleaser for sure.
