Details

The MAT Awards is proud to announce our upcoming fundraiser production and auditions!! These fundraising productions help us get a little ahead so we don’t have to worry about money. That being said, here is the official announcement:

OSA & The MATs are holding Non-Equity OPEN AUDITIONS for their upcoming production of SILENCE! The Musical, music & lyrics by Jon & Al Kaplan and book by Hunter BellDirected by Zip Rampy
Music Directed by Nick Silvestri
Choreographed by Zac PhelpsInfo on show and production:
This will be the regional premiere of Silence!
This musical is a parody of the book and film “The Silence of the Lambs”. This show in no way takes itself or the original content seriously. It is a dark comedy which does not shy away from anything. A great deal of adult language and content makes this show R-rated.

Auditions: The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told

Out Front Theatre Company

Details

Inspired by the fundamentalist remark, “God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told in another version of Biblical history. Act One recounts the major episodes of the Old Testament, only with a twist: Instead of Adam and Eve, our lead characters are Adam and Steve, and Jane and Mabel, a lesbian couple with whom they decide to start civilization (procreation proves to be a provocative challenge) As these two gay couples navigate the centuries together as friends, and encounter various different odd characters, we follow them through a crazed historical pageant that brings us down to a present-day NYC. Out Front’s Producing Artistic Director, Paul Conroy, will direct.

All those interested in auditioning are asked to prepare a contemporary comedic monologue not to exceed 90 seconds.  Only callbacks will consist of cold readings from the script.

Details

It is 6pm and the Douglas family is busily preparing to be invaded by their quirky relatives for their annual Christmas Eve dinner. After robbing a neighborhood liquor store, high strung and irritable Tony, and his dim-witted side-kick Vinny, find themselves in need of a place to briefly hide out. Using a ruse to gain entrance into the Douglas home, they suddenly find themselves in charge of an ever-growing list of family members that they are forced to hold hostage. From smart-aleck teenagers, to nosy neighbors, and bickering adults – the laughs (like the flow of people) are non-stop and we soon wonder who is holding who hostage?!

The Front Porch Players in Jonesboro announce open auditions for the comedy TOKENS OF AFFECTION at our space in the Family Life Center of the First Presbyterian Church of Jonesboro, 1842 Lake Jodeco Rd., Jonesboro, GA. Roles are non-Equity, non-paying. No monologues; auditions will be cold readings from the script. Resumes and headshots appreciated but not necessary. Play is somewhat farce-like, fast-paced.

PERFORMANCE DATES: August 19-21, 26-28. Friday performances 7:30; Sunday performances, 2:30

Definitive rehearsal times and dates will be determined after casting

Director: Karen Ferrell-White

CAST INFORMATION:

Charlie Garrett, 34. A software designer living in Manhattan. Creates perfect little worlds with very clear rules from the comfort of his own home. Which is why he hates to leave his home.
Rita Randall, 47. Charlie’s neighbor and friend, a former actress. Pragmatic, chatty, and loyal. Though she has left the stage, she still delights in drama.
Claire Garrett Burnham , 31. Charlie’s sister, a chef in Connecticut. Playful, bossy, and never wrong. Excels at picturing worst-case scenarios.
Frank Garrett, 63. Charlie’s father, an insurance salesman in Connecticut. Death of a Salesman’s Willy Loman if his life had turned out better. Good-humored and lightly befuddled.
Bruce Burnham, 35. Claire’s husband, a real estate agent in Connecticut. The golden boy. Knows how to close a deal. Unflappable. (Doesn’t really get a lot of the humor in situations)
Jackie Garrett, 60. Charlie’s mother. The sort of woman who always remembers your birthday and the contents of your medicine cabinet.

Ages of cast are somewhat malleable; the younger men and women should be believably in their 30s–makeup can do a good deal to age someone either up or down. Considering cast from 20s-late 60s.

AN ABILITY TO DO A CLEAN MID-WESTERN ACCENT IS A MUST.

“Fuzzy, you and me been friends a long, long time. Long as I can ‘member. You’re the goodest friend I have in the whole world. But Papa needs you now. You got to go and be Pap’s friend ’cause Papa is real sad. Be his friend. And make him laugh like you do me. An’ then Momma, an’ Sandy Claws and all the angels will come, and ever’thing will be fine like it usta. Now don’t you cry. Just go on and stay with Papa.” (John Neal hugs Fuzzy tightly, kisses him on the nose, lays him in Papa’s lap and scampers up the stairs.)
**For the role of MAUDE: (she runs into the yard from the chicken house carrying a small basket of eggs.)
MAUDE: “Momma, Momma!”
[MOMMA: “Maude honey, that mean ole red bitty scare you again?”]
MAUDE: “Not this time Momma, an’she was sitting on three big brown ones! But I done just like you showed me last time. (Maude acts out her story.) I tippy toed real quiet up to her nest, then I put my hand down just as soft as I could on the straw, and then I creeped with my fingers right under her bottom. An’ then I pulled out one egg, then another ‘un and another ‘un! That ole bitty ain’t never going to scare me again! I reckon I’m getting to be a big girl now.”
**For the role of HANNAH ROSE: (she and John Neal have been up in a tree.)
[MOMMA: “Hannah Rose, why in all the world did you let John Neal climb up in there?”]
HANNAH ROSE: “I didn’t let him, Momma. We was playing hide and seek, and I was it, and then while I was counting to a hundred, John Neal climbed up that little ladder Papa’s got leaning up at the back of the shed, and by the time I hollered “ready or not” he was way up there in the tree. I’m sorry, Momma. I reckon I ought to have come and told you what he’d done, but I didn’t want you to be scared. I thought I could just climb up there and get him, but he wouldn’t come out of there until you called.”
**For the role of ALVIN: (it is night. He and Becca sneak out to Papa’s shed. They’re discovering things in the shed. He has a slight stutter.)
ALVIN: “Come on Becca. All the others is sleeping. Does P-P-Papa just come out here and set in the dark looking at n-n-nothing? Becca, it’s a picture of Momma in her wedding d-d-dress. Ain’t she p-p-pretty. Papa’s wrote “My Rose of Sharon” on it. You reckon he called her that ’cause she loved roses? It’s a bullet. Setting right on the shelf next to Momma’s picture. What was it doing there you reckon? What does it mean Becca? I promise. We won’t tell nobody what we found.”
**For the role of BECCA: ( her part is done as a voice-over, as she is mute. However, her lines must be memorized as her body language is so important.)
BECCA: “A long time ago Papa had made up a special song for Momma. It was called ‘The Maple Tree Song’ and Papa said it was a courtin’ song. Momma told us that when she and Papa begun courtin’ they used to set under a ole’ maple tree out in Grammy’s yard. Papa had to go overseas to fight in the war, but afore he left he made up this song for Momma and he sung it to her. It was real close to Christmas when he went away and he was gone for three years. Momma always sung the song when she was lonesome for him.”

LIST OF CHARACTERS

Reverend Mother: Age 50-60: Reserved, in charge, but with a sense of humor that always shines through.

Sister Hubert: Age 30-50: Second in command (which she takes very seriously) and in charge of the novices; sometimes shows frustration with decisions of Rev. mother; often seems to think she’s the one who should be in charge.

Sister Robert Anne: Age 25-35: Street smart (came from Brooklyn and a tough life); great voice; though totally dedicated to God and the convent, she has a not-so-secret wish “to be a star,” and the Reverend Mother seems determined to frustrate that wish. Tough but has heart of gold.

Sister Amnesia: Age 20s-30s: She had a severe blow to the head (which was discussed in the original show, NUNSENSE), and though she’s recovered some of her memory, still is forgetful and an innocent, and blunders often—but always endearingly (and amusingly).

Sister Mary Leo: Small part in beginning of show, played by Stage Manager—age determined via auditions

Father Virgil – Brother of Sister Leo, Age 30′s to 40ish: Has agreed to help sisters and is Master of Ceremonies. Has his own radio show. Must be ready to do a lot of physical comedy.

Four children, ages 8-11 to 14, 2 boys 2 girls—really looking for middle school age, but might go as young as a MATURE 8.

Be prepared to sing traditional Christmas carols (i.e., “We Three Kings”; “Jingle Bells”; “The First Noel”; “Silent Night”, among others) to show your range and ability. Actual songs from the show will be played and you’ll want to be able to pick up on them at callbacks; no monologue required. Be prepared to do cold readings, and also to learn the variations on the Christmas carols which are used in the show. You can go tohttp://www.allmusic.com/album/nuncrackers-nunsense-christmas-musical-mw0000669631 to listen to samples of the actual songs.

Callbacks Tuesday, October 14; rehearsals begin October 20. We will be rehearsing 3 days a week: Sunday, Monday, Thursday, until we get closer to time for the show, at which point count on being there nearly every weeknight. Rehearsals will run 2-2.5 hours typically, but may expand if there is a need for more work.

All roles available.

Auditions are OPEN.

Show dates are December 5th – 14th, 2014.
